Dear Patient(s) of Dr. Roeck:
I am writing to inform you that I will be absent from my medical practice for an extended medical leave for a duration of up to 6-10 months starting July 23, 2023.
We are fortunate to have a few great locums (substitute doctors: Dr. Conly, Dr. Cheng and Dr. Pharo) providing some locum coverage in my absence. This coverage is somewhat limited for the month of August, improving in September and back to normal hours of coverage by October.
With respect to lab work and results that were ordered by me and are pending, Dr. Penner and Dr. Moric have generously offered to look at your lab work and results I have ordered and follow up with you regarding next steps. However, if you have had labs, biopsies or imaging ordered by me and have not heard from our clinic please call the clinic and inquire about the results. If other physicians order investigations in my absence please follow their instruction with respect to follow up.
Dr. Moric and Penner will also cover limited hours, depending on their availability, which can be booked as an appointment under my name in our online booking system; however, this will be very limited as they have full practices of their own.
Please note according to the College's standards, when I am on this leave, prescriptions, including refills, prescribed by me are not valid. In order to best manage this, I request non-urgent and routine prescription refills be requested at the pharmacy to be filled by the pharmacist (NOT a fax request to the physician, some pharmacists can refill preexisting medications) or if this is not possible for prescription or you need medical care for any reason please use the options listed below:
If it is an emergency, please call 9-1-1, or proceed to your nearest emergency department. If you have an urgent concern you can call our office line at 604-984-9213 to see if one of the doctors can accommodate an urgent concern.Another option is the primary care centre at 221 West Esplanade, Suite 200.
If you need to be seen for routine care and no appointments are available: there is the primary care centre at 221 West Esplanade, Suite 200 or walk-in clinics also available usually open after hours & on weekends. You can check for wait times and hours on medimap.ca For semi-urgent medical telephone advice you can call the nurse on call at 8-1-1 .
Please do not leave medical concerns unattended.
Your records and results are available as usual at St Georges Medical Clinic: 1315 St. Georges Avenue, V7L3J2, 604-984-9213, admin@sgmc.ca.
If you live outside the Lower Mainland, please find a family physician in your local area for current and future ongoing care: you can put yourself on the waitlist through the Pathways medical care directory at https://pathwaysmedicalcare.ca and once you find a physician request your medical records as above.(The new College of Physicians and Surgeons guidelines for virtual care does not allow doctors to care for patients who cannot be seen for a timely in-person assessment done by the telemedicine doctor, or another registrant or nurse practitioner with whom the registrant has a pre-established agreement; therefore, appropriate care is just not feasible if the patient is located in a distant community. The locums cannot accommodate patients outside the lower mainland and I will not be able to to see them upon my return due to these college rules . )
Please take care,
Dr. Kyra Roeck

Greetings! JUNE 1, 2023
We hope you have all managed to stay healthy during this horrible winter season!
For those of you who have not seen your family physician in the last 3 years, it would be a good idea to book an appointment to update us on your health. This is necessary to ensure you remain an active patient in our practises. We are inundated with phone calls to take on new clients, so it is imperative you stay active in our practises.
We continue to see patients by phone, virtually and in person. If you are booking a phone appt, please be ready at your appointment time and up to 30 minutes afterwards.
If your appointment needs do not require a face to face visit, we can do your appointment by Doxy.me or phone. Please book appointments preferably on line through the booking tool above or by calling the office number. IF YOUR APPOINTMENT NEEDS REQUIRE AN IN PERSON VISIT, PLEASE BOOK A FACE TO FACE VISIT.
PLEASE NOTE, WE WILL BE CHARGING FOR MISSED APPTS AS THE DEMAND FOR APPTS IS EXTREMELY HIGH
Any patient requests will require a physician appointment. Please be aware that when prescriptions and requisitions are sent remotely, it takes several days to process them on the receiving end. Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, there have been lengthy delays in getting appointments for lab work, radiology and specialist consults. CT, MRIs and specialist appointments can be up to a one year wait. Please do not call the office to inquire about your wait times as it ties up the phones unnecessarily.
We feel it is unsafe to have pharmacists extend your prescriptions as no one is then following your treatment. We have prescriptions run out to remind you to book a follow up appointment so we can monitor whether your treatment is doing what it is meant to do. It is in your best interest to continue to make appointments to renew your prescriptions.
Sincerely,
Drs. Penner, Roeck, and Moric

UPDATED July 23, 2023
Dear Patients,
WE SEE LIVE PEOPLE. IF YOU KNOW YOUR APPOINTMENT NEEDS REQUIRE US TO SEE YOU, PLEASE BOOK AN IN PERSON APPOINTMENT.
1. If you are able, please use our website for all bookings. It is www.sgmc.ca.
2. RE VIRTUAL APPOINTMENTS:
Please do not call the office to ask if the doctor has missed your appointment. Due to the unpredictable nature of medical needs, doctors often run late. Please be available with your ringer on or in the virtual waiting room (if doing a virtual appointment) 5 minutes before your appointment time; we will be with you as soon as possible. If you miss our phone call, you may need to reschedule as we often do not have time for more than one phone call attempt.
3. We only do prescription renewals through an appointment. Please do not email, phone or have the pharmacy fax the office to ask for a prescription renewal. Book an appointment with your physician to review your prescription and have it renewed.
4. Results will only be reviewed through an appointment with your physician. Please do not call the office to ask about your results. Wait a few days after you have done your tests and then book an appointment with your physician to go over the results.
5. Our email address is only to be used to send us information we have requested. Please put “Dr. (Penner, Roeck, OR Moric ) requested this information” in the subject line and the email will be linked to your chart and forwarded to the appropriate physician. All other emails will be returned unread due to the large number of emails we are receiving requesting things of the staff. Any requests for information, reports etc need to be made through an appointment with your physician.
Thank you for your help and consideration.
Drs. Penner, Roeck, AND Moric
Health care provided by the same family doctor over time, leads to more satisfied patients and better health care.
As your family doctor, it's my job to provide you with medical care, maintain your medical record and coordinate referrals to other health care providers when they are needed.
As my patient, your role in your own health care is to try to see me and my team first for your health care needs since we know your health history and goals. This helps avoid duplicate tests, medication errors and even hospitalizations. Ultimately, it helps me to provide you with better, safer care.
As your family doctor, I and my practice team agree to:
Provide you with the best care that I can
Coordinate any specialty care you may need
Offer you timely access to care, to the best of my ability
Maintain an ongoing record of your health
Keep you updated on any changes to services offered at my clinic
Communicate with you honestly and openly so we can best address your health care needs
As my patient, I ask that you:
Seek your health care from me and my team whenever possible and, in my absence, through my locum.
Name me as your family doctor if you have to visit an emergency facility or another provider
Communicate with me honestly and openly so we can best address your health care needs.
If the treatment offered does not yield the desired results, or the problem does not resolve, please book an appointment to inform us of this so we can order further investigations to get to the bottom of your issue.
Drs. Penner, Roeck, and Moric
